Computers 700: Technology Portfolio Project

Purpose

The purpose of this site is to provide students in Computers 700 at Chardon Middle School with information about the Technology Portfolio Project.

What is the Technology Portfolio Project?

First things first, we should probably make sure we all understand what a portfolio is. Basically, a portfolio is a collection of work created by a student to show what has been learned in a class. In the past, a portfolio might have been collected in a notebook, binder, or some other collection of paperwork. Today we have technology on our side. Your portfolios will be in the form of a website created by your group.

Your group's job is to give answers and statements based on questions provided for each topic as they are assigned. You must present your information in a way that someone with no prior knowledge of the topics can understand, and the members of your group must be able to explain the information on your website. There is no copying and pasting of technical information from the web. You must paraphrase information from your research.

Answering Questions

Each topic will have a number of questions and statements for you to address. Your group will research those items and provide solutions and answers on your website. Each topic must have a minimum of two cited sources. I will not require you to create MLA citations, however you must provide working hyperlinks to the websites where you found your information. One source per topic can be a video. I will often provide you with ideas for videos to watch that are related to specific topics. When that is the case, you may use the video as one of your sources, as long as you provide a link to it. Again, you must paraphrase information you find, and you must rewrite it in a way you can understand.

Grading

The project has two rubrics, one for the overall design of the site and individual pages, and one for the information you provide about each topic. Each topic will have its own grade, and the overall design will have its own grade.

All of my classes have over thirty people. If you're trying to have me grade a topic on a particular day, and I don't get to you, you won't be penalized. Just let me know when you're ready to have a topic graded. If it's on a day before a due date, I'll still grade it as if it has been reviewed before the due date.

Web and Page Design

The overall site and individual pages must be set up in a way that is easy to navigate. It should be possible for a viewer to get to any page on your site (including the homepage) from any other page. Design elements should be consistent from page to page, with buttons and controls in roughly the same position from page to page. All links within your site and to other sites should work.
